The third official Maryborough cemetery was established in 1873 and burials were on a strictly denominational basis. The cemetery contains many fine examples of early Queensland monumental art. The Mortuary Chapel, was built 1883, and designed so horse drawn vehicles could pass through or shelter there. Low shelf seats around the interior edges allowed the chapel to also be used by mourners for shelter. The cemetery is visited by the Ghostly Tours and Tales of the Port Of Maryborough tour held on the Saturday night of the last weekend of the month.

The fourth-official Cemetery, the Garden of Rest, was approved in 1959, while the Crematorium licence was granted in 1968 to J Kirk and Sons.
