The Western Games are a new concept, which will be coordinated by the North Queensland Sports Foundation. The inaugural Western Games will be held on 4 and 5 July 2009, and will be a multi sport event. An estimated 10 or 12 sports will be included, with events being staged along the Overlander's Way in Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Richmond, Hughenden and Charters Towers.
At this stage the sports are still to be determined, but already a positive response has been received from a number of sports in the region. Keep this event in mind as you are travelling through the region and be on the lookout for more information as it arises.
