Airlie Beach Triathlon Festival

This is the tenth anniversary of the Airlie Beach Triathlon which is now incorporated into the Airlie Beach Triathlon Festival. The event incorporates the Coral Sea Resort Open Water Swim, Ergon Energy Junior Triathlon, PRD Airlie Beach Triathlon, Business Team Challenge, High School Team Challenge, Citibeach Beach Volleyball Challenge and a Sport Expo.

The main event is the PRD Airlie Beach Triathlon which is a Sprint distance (750/20/5). Triathletes of all ages and abilities, including professionals, converge on Airlie Beach from all states. Up to AUD20,000 in cash and prizes is a major drawcard plus the friendly hospitality and scenic course, the event being dubbed the biggest and best on the coast. The event is run by the Whitsunday Triathlon Club with backing from a significant number of local and interstate sponsors and community volunteers.

The Airlie Beach Triathlon Festival is a major community event which receives Grant assistance from Whitsunday Shire Council, has twice been awarded a Queensland Events Grant, has been awarded Community Event of the year in the Whitsunday Shire Council 2007 Australia Day Awards. Competitors numbers rise significantly every year and many of these are first timers, particularly from their own region. The Junior Triathlon attracts children from the local schools and this number rises each year, following regular school visits.

Follow Shute Harbour Road into Airlie Beach and take first turn left into Broadwater Avenue.

The event organisers strongly encourage spectators to come along and watch the event. All spectators are free of charge.
