In August 2008 the tiny outback Queensland town of Hughenden will host a 160 kilometre camel endurance race. With a prize purse in excess of AUD50,000.00, people and camels will be coming from around the world.
This will be a major part of the inaugural 'Arid Lands Festival' which will be held over three days on 22, 23 and 24 August. The festival is going to showcase the Australian Outback and how people live, work and play in one of the more arid parts of the world. With street displays, international speakers and static exhibits the festival will focus on sustainable living in arid regions.
