Indigenous Queensland

Take some time to experience Indigenous Queensland and you’ll be left wanting to know more.

The rainforest culture of the Djabugay people is unique and ancient. Take a tour with them along the walking trail at Bare Hill or experience the World Heritage listed rainforest in the Barron Gorge National Park. Here you’ll get an insight into the people who have lived on this land for thousands and thousands of years.

Experience stunning theatrical interpretation of Aboriginal culture at the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park where it’s award-winning dance group performs.

North of Cape Tribulation is Wujal Wujal, home to Walker Family Tours. On tour you’ll join the family matriarchs and have these formidable women teach you about life in the bush, including traditional bush foods and medicinal plants.

Discover outdoor rock-art sites where giant paintings and engravings that reflect the spirituality and cultural practices at the core of Aboriginal life continue to stand the test of time. Heritage & Interpretive Tours will take you there.

Or head to the most northern point of Australia, Thursday Island, to visit the Gab Titui Cultural Centre. There you’ll find historical artefacts, a showcase of artwork and be able to learn about the history and culture of the Torres Strait Islanders.

Art, culture, dance and going bush - this ancient culture is one to admire and respect.
